Baltic coast

Holidaymakers can experience great expanses, a fresh breeze and clear water all the way along the Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein. This diverse region, with its idyllic bays, cliff lines and mile-long beaches extends from Flensburg and the German-Danish border in the north, via Kiel, Heiligenhafen and Timmendorfer Strand to Lübeck and Travemünde in the south. Located off the mainland is the sunny isle of Fehmarn; the ferry sails from Puttgarden via the Fehmarn Belt to Denmark.

The clear water of the Baltic Sea and its gentle waves attract families and couples, explorers and pleasure seekers to the long, unspoiled beaches of the Flensburg Fjord, to the idyllic villages on the Schlei river, to the coastal resort of Damp and to the many highly frequented, traditional coastal resorts in the bays of Kiel and Lübeck. Wishes come true in this land, with over 80 beaches lining up along almost 400 kilometres of coastline. Mermaids and Neptunes will find space here to relax, enjoy themselves and get active, to play beach volleyball, go waterskiing, build sandcastles and fly kites.
Holidaymakers can find beaches of fine, white sand where they can swim and recharge their batteries between Kiel Bay and the island of Fehmarn, which enjoys the highest number of annual sunshine hours. The most exotic beach is Schönberg beach. The ‘California’ and ‘Brazil’ place signs might confuse newcomers at first. Overseas destinations on Germany's Baltic coast? The answer to the riddle is simple: ‘California’ and ‘Brazil’ are the names of the two dreamy family beaches to the west of Schönberg beach.

Holstein Switzerland

Welcome to Schleswig Holstein's largest natural park. Holstein Switzerland borders the Hanseatic city of Lübeck in the south, and the state capital Kiel in the north. The successful combination of nature and culture is what makes this natural park so unique. Here, shimmering lakes alternate with idyllic forest and field landscapes, rustic villages and old estates and stately homes.

This environment stands for gentle relaxation. You can explore the landscape by bike or on foot, discover the Schwentine from a canoe or head for the small farmyard cafes, all of this is possible. No visitors should miss out on a trip to the historic little towns such as Plön, Eutin, Preetz and Bad Segeberg, where you can always feel a gentle breeze.
