Itzehoe could be called the town in the trees. It is located on the Stör river and is surrounded by magnificent forests. As a lively and friendly district town it welcomes visitors with open arms. Many restaurants, cafes and inns offer a superb choice for a pleasant meal. The longest pedestrianised zone on the west coast characterises the town centre and invites you to discover the ‘shopping town of Itzehoe’. An appealing calendar of events provides plenty of entertainment in one of Holstein's oldest towns. Whether you visit the wine festival in May during the annual ‘Itzehoe Week’, the giant flea market or the open-air festival, whether you profit from the diverse cultural programme of the ‘theater itzehoe', take a look around the museums or delve into the colourful atmosphere of the funfairs, Itzehoe keeps you well entertained all year round.

It houses the works left behind by the German-Bohemian artist Wenzel Hablik (1881–1934), who lived and worked in Itzehoe from 1907 until his death. www.wenzel-hablik.de
Prinzesshof District Museum
The Prinzesshof District Museum is located in one of the town's oldest buildings – a domicile for gentry which was built by the convent in 1556. This was the home not only of Elector Wilhelm I of Hesse-Kassel, but also of three princesses between 1810 and 1941. They where abbesses of the Itzehoe Convent – which is why it is called the ‘Prinzesshof’ (the Princesses' Court). This building was first used as a museum in 1964. www.kreismuseum-prinzesshof.de
