3-day tour of the Duchy of Lauenburg

The round trip through the Duchy of Lauenburg begins in the Till Eulenspiegel town of Mölln. It is worth visiting ‘erlebnisreich’, the region’s tourism and nature centre, to get information and a feel for the area. The route takes you onwards via the island town of Ratzeburg, through the Lauenburg Lakes National Park, and along the Schaalsee lake. In the south you will get to visit the towns of Lauenburg and Geesthacht as well as the famous Sachsenwald forest.


DAY 1

• Mölln: ‘erlebnisreich’ exhibition, wildlife park, walk around the old town in the footsteps of Till Eulenspiegel, Eulenspiegel Museum
• Mölln–Ratzeburg (10 km)
• Cathedral visit
• Boat trip, trip around the island on a dragon boat or pedalo
• Ratzeburg–Schlagsdorf (0 km)
• ‘Grenzhus’ – the museum of a former border region with a tower cafe
• Schlagsdorf–Dargow (18 km)
• Viewing tower with a view over the Schaalsee lake
• Overnight stay in the Dargow Hay Hostel
   

DAY 2

• Dargow–Gross Zecher (10 km)
• Walk on the river island
• Gross Zecher – Zarrentin (7 km)
• Pahlhuus in Zarrentin – information centre for the Schaalsee lake which borders Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
• Zarrentin – Büchen (32 km)
• Priest’s cottage in Büchen – a permanent exhibition on the history of the ‘wet salt route’
• Büchen – Siebeneichen (5 km)
• Trip over the Elbe-Lübeck Canal with the cable ferry in Siebeneichen
• Siebeneichen – Lauenburg (18 km)
• Walk around the old town
• Elbe Shipping Museum
• Trip on the ‘Kaiser Wilhelm’ paddle steamer
• ‘Palmschleuse’ lock
• Overnight stay in Lauenburg
   

DAY 3

• Lauenburg–Geesthacht (16 km)
• ‘Krügerisches Haus’ museum in Geesthacht
• Ride on the historical steam engine Karoline
• Climbing tour of the skytrail
• Geesthacht Energy Park
• Geesthacht–Friedrichsruh (15 km)
• Walk in the Sachsenwald forest
• Bismarck Museum
• Butterfly garden
• Return to Mölln (40 km)
