St. Michaelisdonn
Bahnhofstr. 26
25693 St. Michaelisdonn
St. Michaelisdonn and the surrounding area: the bridge between marshland and Geestland, between the North Sea and the Kiel Canal, between mudflats and forests. This motto goes a long way to describing the diverse landscapes of our communities in the Südermarsch region, which is marked by the city of Kleve, heathland, dunes, flat marshland, hilly Geestland and the Kiel Canal, and is interspersed with hiking trails and viewpoints. It is precisely these contrasting landscapes which make a visit here a fresh experience every single day.
Sights of interest and places to visit
The ‘Edda’ mill is a symbol of St. Michaelisdonn; its position up on the Kleve makes it visible from a long way away. The ‘God with us’ mill in Eddelack can be visited by appointment, and also serves as a wedding mill. The pulpit altar, with its beautiful carvings, is a particular attraction of the St. Marien Church, and the St. Michaelis Church houses a baroque-style font. Equally worth a visit is the Freemason's Museum. It is unique in Germany and the third-largest of its kind in Europe. An experience for everyone, not just railway fans, is a trip on the rail cycle between St. Michaelisdonn and Marne. Another highlight is Hopen Airfield, where you can take an unforgettable plane ride over Dithmarschen. The new golf course is integrated into the local Geestland. Signed hiking trails and cycle paths snake through the entire region. A central attraction is the Kiel Canal, when the great cruise ships have passed through the locks.
